Apple TV hack will run XviD

We all knew it would happen, but so soon? The Apple TV has only been out a few days and we’ve already been emailed about a few hacks.
One of the most popular hacks being blogged about is the one that gives Apple TV the ability to play files outside of its normal MPEG-4 and H.264 standards. The Apple TV has been hacked to run non-supported video formats such as XviD and others. Basically it was opened up like a CPU tower and the hard drive was removed and placed in a USB external case. Next came installing the SSH server Dropbear, the video container Perian and a few other tweaks.
